Learning experience 4

Wow, I can not believe that the semester is coming to an end. This semester has been challenging but a great learning experience. This month I finished up my clinical experiences. It was a great experience, getting to meet with the teacher, plan a lesson and teach it. Being able to get in a classroom and teach actual students was the best part of this class. I was able to teach and reflect on my lessons. I was able to think about what I can do differently next time I teach. My clinical advisor was great to work with and very supportive. She constantly provided me with feedback on my teaching and making suggestions. This lesson helped me learn how to plan a social studies lesson and integrate it into an ELA lesson. It really opened my eyes to how teachers integrate social studies into other subjects. I can connect this learning experience to the NC teacher standard three, teachers make instruction relevant to students. I connect this standard to planning the lesson I taught for my clinical experience. I had to take the information the teacher gave me and connect it to fourth grade NC standards. I also can connect this learning experience to NC teacher standard 4, teachers help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. During my lesson planning, I chose to have the students create a two column note organizer. One column was the main idea and the other was details. Watching the students look back at the text and really think about the main idea of each section and make those connect was a great learning experience. Comparing this lesson with the other lessons I taught this semester. I feel the students were more engaged in completing the two-column notes versus having them fill out a paper. I can take this learning experience and apply it into my own future classroom. I hope everyone has a great rest of the semester and a Merry Christmas.

Octobers Learning experience

SST 307 Blog 3 

First I want to say I cannot believe it is November and the semester is coming to an end quickly.  I was able to meet with my clinical educator. This was a great experience watching her teach ELA in small groups. She incorporated social studies into her reading lesson. She discussed how different countries live in poverty and may not have the resources that we have. While reading she stopped and pointed out the map and discussed where Africa is and the distance between the United States. I am excited to work with the teacher and the students this semester. I was really nervous about working with fourth grade since I have mainly been with the lower grades. After my observation, I am very excited to work with fourth grade. As I sub I am finding that I prefer working with grades 2-4. I learned a great amount from my clinical educator from this one observation that I will be able to incorporate in my future classroom. In my future classroom, I would like to have my students in groups for ELA. In these groups, I can incorporate social studies and I learned scholastic news is a great resource for classrooms. As I continue to unpack standards I am finding reliable resources I can use. I continue to learn a great amount from this experience. I can relate my learning experiences to the NCPTS, standard 3 teachers know the content they teach. I was able to observe my clinical educator align the instruction to social studies standards specifically to economics. 

Septembers learning experience

I am so happy fall is finally here. It is my favorite time of the year, there are so many activities and opportunities to spend time with the family. I am excited and nervous about starting my observations this semester. Getting to see how everything works in a classroom is my favorite part. I learn so much from teachers and from my own experience during subbing. 

I continue to learn and find several resources from twitter that I can use in my future classroom. This week’s tweets I even branched out and found a resource on Facebook from our local library. Iredell public library has a special font for people with dyslexia. I think this is a great resource for teachers to share with students. We are learning about dyslexia in EDU 306, and ways to plan instruction for our students. 

During this month I learned how to flip a lesson through a program called Sophia. This has been a great learning experience that I will utilize in my future classroom. In the 21^stcentury classes, teachers need to find ways to engage their students and prepare an active learning experience. I can connect this learning experience to NCTS to standard three, teachers know the content they teach. This learning experience will help me plan my lessons and instruction relevant to the students. A flipped lesson is an example of teachers should know the content they teach, bring out the students curiosity and interest.  

My learning experience

This has been a very interesting class. I feel like I am going to learn so much as the semester goes on. To be honest I thought twitter was going to be busy work at first. As the weeks have gone on I feel like with twitter I am learning about new ideas from what I have found and from my classmates. I am excited about all the new things I am learning this semester as it will help shape me as a future teacher. This class does involve a great amount of time working on classwork, but it will be beneficial when I student teach. I am starting my week off by looking at the work for this class early each week. This has helped me stay on track with my work and take the time to provide quality work. I have already started looking for museums to use in our group project. I attended an event this past weekend at the Gregory Creek Homestead museum. My daughter wanted to attend this event and I found it very interesting. As we walked around in my mind I thought about ways I can incorporate this into my future classroom. I used it as a learning experience for my daughter and myself. We talked about how people lived during this time and the difference between then and now. I feel that my learning this month relates to standard 3 Teachers know the content they teach. As I unpack standards, tweet and find local museums, I am learning information that I can apply in my future classroom. All of this information will help me align my instruction with the NC standards. I can also connect my learning to NC teacher standard 4 teachers integrate and utilize technology in their instruction. Through tweeting, creating videos I am learning how I can use different types of technology in my future classroom.
